Day Trips

Open to both inviduals and troops, Day Trips run from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM on weekends, and include staff-led programming, lunch, snacks, s'mores, and a fun patch. They're the perfect introduction to Camp Kaufmann for Girl Scouts of all levels!

Overnight Trips

Overnight Trips run from Saturday morning to Sunday morning for a full 24 hours of fun!

All groups must be accompanied by an adult volunteer who has completed the Overnight Adventures: Sleep Out training and an adult volunteer who has completed First Aid/CPR certification. One volunteer CAN hold both certifications.

All adults attending overnight events must be registered GSGNY Volunteers.

Girl Scouts and their troop leaders can opt to spend the night in one of Camp Kaufmann’s Troop and Lake Houses during Overnight Trips. Level-specific and all-level experiences are offered, with programming led by camp staff.

Food is provided by camp.

What are the training requirements for Overnight Trips? toggle arrow

One adult per registered party must complete the Overnight Adventures: Sleep Out! training on gsLearn (accessed through your MyGS account), and all adults spending the night must be registered, background-check cleared volunteers/adult members. This applies to all Girl Scout overnight trips.

If Girl Scouts are traveling or being housed as a troop, at least one adult must be First Aid-certified. We will provide in-unit certified staff for units that do not have other certified adults.

How do I register for Camp Kaufmann Day Trips? toggle arrow

To register for Day Trips, log in to CampBrain. If this is your first time using CampBrain, you will need to create an account.

Select “Day Trips [Year]” to view the Day Trips and “Overnight Themes [Year]” to view the Overnight Events that are currently open for registration.

There is no training required to attend a Day Trip. Camp staff manages all activities and provides lunch, so all you need to do is register!

What is the registration deadline for Day and Overnight Trips? toggle arrow

Registration closes the Monday two weeks before (12 days before) the start of the camping weekend. For example, if the event is on Saturday, April 11, you would need to register by Monday, March 31.

What does the schedule look like for Day Trips? What about Overnights? toggle arrow

Our schedule varies based on the theme, time of year, weather, availability of certified staff, and many other factors. Below is a sample itinerary of an average schedule. Please note that these activities or timings listed are not always indicative of every event, and activities are subject to change.

What is the cost of a Day Trip? What about an Overnight? toggle arrow

All Day Trips are $45 per person (both Girl Scout youth and adults) and include programming from 10:00 AM – 3:30 PM, lunch, snacks, and a fun patch/earned badge (if applicable).

Overnight Trips are $100 per person (both Girl Scout youth and adults) and include programming from 10:00 AM on Saturday to 11:00 AM on Sunday, all meals/snacks, and a fun patch.

Confirmation packets with trip details, including sample menus and itineraries, will be sent after registration. Activities are always subject to change based on weather conditions and available certified staff.

Do adults pay the fee for Day and Overnight Trips? toggle arrow

Yes, the $45 cost is for each individual, youth or adult, for Day Trips. The $100 cost is for each individual, youth or adult, for Overnight Themes.

Can I use Cookie Credits to book a Day or Overnight Trip? toggle arrow

If you have cookie credits and would like to use them for a Day Trip or Overnight Theme, please e-mail us at campkaufmann@girlscoutsnyc.org with your attached Cookie Credit.

Is financial aid available? How do I apply? toggle arrow

Financial aid for Day and Overnight Trips may be requested by emailing campkaufmann@girlscoutsnyc.org. Once approved, you will be provided with next steps to complete your registration.

After submitting my registration form and receiving a confirmation email, is it too late to add Girl Scouts to my reservation? toggle arrow

If capacity allows and the registration deadline has not passed, you can add Girl Scouts by registering them the usual way through CampBrain. If you need assistance, email us at campkaufmann@girlscoutsnyc.org.

Can I cancel my reservation or replace a Girl Scout who cannot attend with another Girl Scout? Can my deposit be transferred? toggle arrow

Cancellations or withdrawals from camp will be honored up to two weeks prior to the day of your Day or Overnight Trip. Any cancellations made less than two weeks before your trip will not be refunded.

Requests for refunds less than two weeks before your trip due to medical circumstances will be reviewed and will be at the discretion of the Camp Leadership Team. No refunds will be given for campers arriving late, leaving early, or attending only a portion of the program for any reason.

Should an event need to be cancelled due to safety or weather condition concerns, all registrants will be notified no later than 3 PM on the Friday before the event. In these cases, refunds will be issued.

What paperwork needs to be completed before participating in Day or Overnight Trips? toggle arrow

Waivers are required for all attendees. Adults must sign and turn in the following waivers and agreements on behalf of themselves and any Girl Scouts youths in their care. For day trips and overnight themes, these waivers are filled out on CampBrain during the registration process. These forms should be completed for each camper; however, siblings may be included on the same form.

The following forms must be completed for all participants, youth and adults:

If you are traveling as a troop, troop leaders must also complete GSGNY's Troop Trip/Activity Application. Troops only need "approval" for trips to Camp Kaufmann if they are booking a charter bus for transportation purposes. If you are not booking a charter bus, no approval is required but you'll still need to complete the form.

If troop leaders are traveling with Girl Scouts without their caregiver/guardian present, it is recommended that they also collect a completed Girl Scout Health and Safety Record for each of the Girl Scouts they are supervising.

Do I need to attend Day Trips with my Girl Scout? What about Overnights? toggle arrow

Troop leaders, caregivers, and Girl Scouts are welcome to participate in Camp Kaufmann Day Trips. While caregiver attendance is not required, this is not a drop-off event and the group must supply enough supervising adults (troop leaders, volunteers, etc.) to meet Girl Scout safety ratios.

The adult supervision rule at Girl Scouts is a strict standard that requires that whenever Girl Scouts meet, there must be at least two registered, approved adult volunteers who are unrelated (i.e. sibling, spouse, domestic partner, parent, child, or anyone who would be considered a family member) and who do not live in the same residence, with a minimum of one who is female. Troop leaders must always be adults. Youth or youth members are not permitted to substitute for adult supervision. This rule applies to every Girl Scout gathering.

There are specific adult-to-Girl Scout ratio requirements for Girl Scouts for different activities. The adult-to-Girl Scout ratio for camping and travel means a minimum of two registered, approved, adult volunteers who are unrelated, including one female, must be present for up to this number of Girl Scouts:

With one extra registered, approved, adult volunteer for every additional:

Some high-adventure activities may require additional supervision. For safety ratios for specific activities, please refer to the Safety Activity Checkpoints (which also available in Spanish).

Can I book a charter bus/van for my troop to travel to camp? toggle arrow

Yes, you may book a charter bus to travel to camp with the approval of council. Additionally, you must let the camp leadership team know prior to your weekend at camp. Troop Leaders must complete the Troop Trip/Activity Application for any troop trip. Troops only need "approval" for trips to Camp Kaufmann if they are booking a charter bus for transportation purposes. If you are not booking a charter bus, approval is not required but you still need to fill out this form.

As of 10/1/2023, GSUSA has dictated that troop leaders and volunteers may not sign contracts for charters, even if there is no cost. Submit your contract via the Troop Trip/Activity Application to request approval and signature by council.

Your charter bus driver may remain with their bus in the parking lot or, if they intend to enter the property, they must be checked in by camp staff and issued a visitor pass.

What if it rains during my Day or Overnight Trip? toggle arrow

Camp Kaufmann offers many indoor activities, such as an in-house campfire, arts and crafts, and games. Many outdoor activities can still take place in light rain if there is no thunder or lightning. We will do our best to make sure that you have a great experience and offer schedule changes or alternatives when possible.

Should an event need to be cancelled or postponed due to safety or weather condition concerns, all registrants will be notified no later than 3 PM on the Friday before. In these cases, refunds will be issued.
