You can absolutely join Girl Scouts by yourself. A Girl Scout who opts for this type of membership is known as an Individually Registered Member (IRM). IRMs are also known as Juliettes, named after our founder, Juliette Gordon Low. Juliettes choose how to participate based on their schedule and interests.
Joining as a Juliette is great for Girl Scouts without a troop available nearby or who want to enjoy Girl Scout programming with their family. They can get started right away by earning badges independently or attending events to meet other Girl Scouts in their area.
Badges signify that a Girl Scout completed all the steps needed to earn this recognition for the new skills they learned. Badge topics range from the outdoors to STEM, career exploration, and beyond.
Once a badge is earned, it is sewn or ironed onto a sash or vest. A Girl Scout can earn new badges as they progress through each level, with activities becoming more challenging as they move up.
Love being outdoors? Follow your passion and sign up for weekend camping trips as a Juliette. Camp as often as you want and meet other Girl Scouts who share your enthusiasm for the great outdoors.
Expand your horizons by spending a week at camp in the summer or exploring local state parks. As a Cadette, Senior, or Ambassador (grades 6–12), you can even explore the United States—or the world!—by traveling to other Girl Scout camps.
Be a boss and start your own business by participating in the Girl Scout Cookie Program. Juliettes can sell cookies in a structure supported by our council.
