Can I join as an independent Girl Scout?

Yes! Earn badges, go camping, and more on your own schedule.

You can absolutely join Girl Scouts by yourself. A Girl Scout who opts for this type of membership is known as an Individually Registered Member (IRM). IRMs are also known as Juliettes, named after our founder, Juliette Gordon Low. Juliettes choose how to participate based on their schedule and interests.

Joining as a Juliette is great for Girl Scouts without a troop available nearby or who want to enjoy Girl Scout programming with their family. They can get started right away by earning badges independently or attending events to meet other Girl Scouts in their area.

Can Juliette members still earn their Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards? toggle arrow

Yes, Juliette Girl Scouts can earn the Highest Awards without being in a troop. More information about the Highest Awards can be found here.

Do I need to register as an adult member now that my Girl Scout is a Juliette? toggle arrow

Yes, Juliette Girl Scouts are required to have one adult mentor registered to help guide them on their Girl Scout journey.

Can Juliette members participate in council and service unit events? toggle arrow

Yes, Juliettes can participate in any council and service unit events. Events will specify whether an adult is request to be present at the event.

How do Juliettes earn rebates? toggle arrow

Juliettes do not earn rebates and are not allowed to have a troop account. If a Juliette Girl Scout participates in the Cookie Program, the rebate will be credited to the Juliette troop account.

Can Juliettes partner with a troop for the Fall Product Program or Cookie Program? toggle arrow

Yes. However the Girl Scout is then considered a member of that troop. The troop rebate portion of the sales stay with the troop.

Can Juliettes have cookie booths? toggle arrow

Yes, Juliettes can have a cookie booth. Cookies will be picked up from one of our Cookie Cupboards and need to be paid for in advance.

Can Juliettes use troop rebates for a service project? toggle arrow

No because the troop rebate cannot be converted into cash and given to the Girl Scout, Juliettes cannot use rebate money for service projects or any other non GSGNY purpose. It can only be used within the Girl Scout system for registration, camp, council programs, or items at www.girlscoutshop.com.

If a Juliette is splitting from a troop can the troop give that Girl Scout's portion of the troop rebate to her? toggle arrow

No, any troop rebate earned belongs to the troop as a whole. Troop leaders cannot give cash to individual Girl Scouts. If the Girl Scout transfers out of the troop during cookie season, council will move her to a Juliette troop in the cookie database and all orders and payments will transfer as well.

How can I receive information while being a Juliette member? toggle arrow

When a Girl Scout becomes a Juliette, we notify the service unit in your area to put you on their monthly e-mail distribution list and invite you to attend monthly service unit meetings. Your Service Unit Team will usually have a coach for specific program levels and can offer advice on particular badges/journeys. All Juliette guardians/mentors will also be updated with council newsletters and Juliette specific communications.

Will I have access to the Volunteer Toolkit (VTK) toggle arrow

Yes, Juliettes have the ability to create their own year plan in the VTK. If there is a more than one Juliette within a househoild or connected to one e-mail, the VTK will show a drop-down menu to switch between girls giving them each their own personalized year plan.
