–Principal of Glasheen & Co. DuVally will be honored for her advocacy for the LGBTQ+ community in advance of the publication of her memoir, “Maeve Rising, Coming Out Trans in Corporate America”–
(New York, N.Y.) — On Tuesday, May 9, 2023, Girl Scouts of Greater New York will honor Maeve DuVally, Principal of Glasheen & Co., for her exemplary leadership and advocacy at its annual Gold Achievement Gala at the Ziegfeld Ballroom. The event supports Girl Scouts’ signature leadership development programming across the five boroughs. Each year, Girl Scouts of Greater New York presents leaders who exemplify outstanding achievement and integrity in their fields with Gold Achievement Awards in keeping with the tradition of the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest achievement in Girl Scouting.
A multi-cultural communications specialist, DuVally is being recognized for her decades-long career as a storyteller and journalist. She began her career as a financial journalist and editor at Bridge News, where she worked for nearly 15 years before moving to media relations at Merrill Lynch. After a lifetime of working with large companies — most recently, serving as the managing director in corporate communications at Goldman Sachs for 18 years — she is now consulting for corporations and other entities on communications strategy and diversity, equity, and inclusion.
In line with focus on increasing diversity and inclusion in the workplace, DuVally serves as a mentor for transgender people and is a frequent public speaker on LGBTQ+ workplace issues. Her memoir, Maeve Rising, Coming Out Trans in Corporate America, tells the story of her experience coming out at one of the most high-profile financial institutions in America—Goldman Sachs. Her experience was also detailed in a New York Times profile from 2019. The book will be released in August.
DuVally serves on the boards of GLAAD; the Knight-Bagehot Fellowship, a journalism non-profit; Connecticut-based LGBTQ+ health provider Anchor Health Initiative; and Trans New York. She earned a B.A. in English from Providence College in 1983 and was a Knight-Bagehot Fellow at Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism School in 1994.
"It's one thing to say your organization is inclusive and it's another to demonstrate it through action as the Girl Scouts of Greater New York are doing through this award,” said DuVally. “Given the current hostile environment in much of this country toward LGBTQ+ people, it brings me great joy to see the Girl Scouts sending a powerful message that diversity is to be celebrated."
“We are beyond thrilled to honor Maeve for her work promoting equity and inclusion in corporate workplaces,” said Meridith Maskara, CEO of Girl Scouts of Greater New York. “Girl Scouts is an inclusive space welcoming young people of a variety of gender identities, and so it’s important to us to uplift and celebrate leaders who give Girl Scouts diverse role models and encourage them to be true to themselves.”
In addition to honoring DuVally, the Girl Scouts of Greater New York is also honoring former CEO of BBH USA Amani Duncan, Former First Deputy Mayor of the City of New York Lorraine Grillo, Chief Human Resources Officer of TPG Global Anilu Vazquez-Ubarri, and CEO of Transit Wireless Melinda White.
