Add a little extra adventure

Outdoor Classrooms are special camp activities led by our skilled counselors. Troops may choose to add up to two (2) Outdoor Classrooms to their camping experience for an additional fee.

Outdoor Classrooms are offered for Troop Camping experiences only. Itineraries for Day Trips, Overnights, and Sleepaway Camp are organized in advance by our Camp Kaufmann staff.

Requests must be made via the Troop Camping Confirmation Form no later than three (3) weeks prior to your camping trip. Approval from the Camp Director, pending weather conditions and staff availability, and confirmation by the Camp Registrar will be sent no later than one (1) week prior to your camping trip.

There’s nothing quite like roasting marshmallows over a fire at camp. Learn new camp songs and share some old favorites as you make unforgettable memories with your troop. All levels eligible. Adults must register if they'd like s'mores!

Explore the trails throughout Camp Kaufmann’s 425 acres on a guided hike with an experienced camp staff member. There must be at least one registered adult for every 8 Girl Scouts.

To newcomers, camp can seem scary at night. Our staff are here to assure you there is no reason to be frightened! Choose between a flashlight hike or a science-based experience that includes experiments and no flashlights. There must be at least one registered adult for every 5 Girl Scouts.

Low Ropes

Low Ropes allows your Girl Scouts to learn team building and cooperation skills. Explore the various elements including the Whale Watch, 3D Web, Swinging Log, Spider Web, and more!

Spring, Summer, and Fall Classrooms

Archery

Brownies, Juniors, Cadettes, Seniors, Ambassadors

The archery range teaches Girl Scouts safety, patience, and skill. GSGNY reserves the right to assess participants’ maturity level as all participants must be old enough to understand safety procedures and handle equipment so as not to endanger themselves or others.

Boating

All Levels

1.5 hours

Beginning boaters and non-swimmers can try their hand at row boating. For those who are ready for more of a challenge, head out on Lake Carola in a canoe. There must be at least one registered adult for every 7 Girl Scouts. Daisies and Brownies must have one adult per boat; however, only the adults counted in the 1:7 ratio need to register and pay. Each boat holds 4 people.

Scale the heights on one of the three faces of our climbing tower! Adults must register if they would like to participate.

Once you've made it to the top of our climbing tower, you can ride our zipline through the trees! Adults must register if they would like to participate.

Once you've made it to the top of our climbing tower, you'll have the option of completing the high ropes circuit and/or riding our zipline through the trees! Adults must register if they would like to participate. *Participants must be at least 57" tall.

Fishing

Girl Scouts can discover the sunfish, perch, and bass that live in Lake Carola through our catch and release fishing program! There must be at least one registered adult for every 8 Girl Scouts.

Girl Scouts will learn about the delicate ecosystem of the frog pond, the life cycles of frogs and insects, and why certain types of plants attract butterflies and other pollinators. There must be at least one registered adult for every 10 Girl Scouts.

Once the snow starts falling, Camp Kaufmann becomes a winter wonderland! Troops can enjoy sledding and snowshoeing any time there is snow. There must be at least one registered adult for every 8 Girl Scouts.

Take a staff-guided tour of our brand-new dining and instructional hall, and visit Mama Ribbit’s Market, a small souvenir shop at camp located in the Atrium of Girl HQ.

Merchandise includes patches, t-shirts, flashlights, plushies, and more! The cost of items ranges from $1-35, so we recommend each Girl Scout brings $20-50 if they would like to make any purchases. We accept cash, credit cards, or tap to pay.

Arts & Crafts

Crafts have a long tradition at camp! We encourage troops to create SWAPS to bring and share with other troops.

What are Girl Scout SWAPS? They are Special Whatchamacallits Affectionately Pinned Somewhere — small tokens of friendship that Girl Scouts exchange with one another to represent a memory of a special event.

With prior request, you may use the art pavilion and standard supplies for your Arts & Crafts session.

Games & Sports

There are many areas on camp to play games and sports. Weather permitting, enjoy our large sports field, playground, and basketball court.

With prior request, sports equipment may be available for your troops to use, including basketballs, volleyballs, frisbees, etc.

Peace Garden toggle arrow

Peace Garden

A place for calm and reflection, this garden is dedicated to all those who lost their lives on September 11th.

Check with camp staff to schedule community service work at the peace garden.

Trails

Lace up your boots and venture out to explore the many hiking trails across Camp Kaufmann’s 425 acres. Trails are all well-marked and many include informative nature signs.

Ask camp staff for a trail map based on experience and hiking skills!
