Ways to Volunteer

Behind every Girl Scout is a great leader.

Be the troop leader that supports her every week. Mentor a Girl Scout during cookie season as she strives to meet her goals. Or work with other adults to provide the kind of behind-the-scenes support that makes it all possible. Whether you can give a few hours, a few weeks, or a few months, volunteering with Girl Scouts is flexible and fun.

Troop Volunteer Roles

Troop Leader (troops require TWO co-leaders)

Work with a group of girls and mentor them as they make new friends and develop connections that will last a lifetime.

Troop Family and Friends

Assist with driving, activity planning, snacks, money management, or other tasks necessary to keep the troop running smoothly.

Cookie Volunteers

Set up cookie booths, manage money and inventory, and watch the girls light up when they earn rewards!

Other Volunteer Roles

Volunteer roles are also available through the Girl Scouts of Greater New York Council - New York City's local, administrative branch. Whichever role(s) you choose, your support makes it possible for each Girl Scout to build courage, confidence, and character, and make the world a better place!

Short-Term Volunteer (Virtual)

Lead virtual programming as part of Girl Scout Summer 2.1 (GSS 2.1), Girl Scouts of Greater New York’s virtual summer initiative. Volunteers will be trained by Council Staff and facilitate two meetings per week for the duration of their selected program. View position descriptions and complete an interest form here!

Event Volunteers

Assist at any Girl Scouts level in a variety of ways, including running activity stations, managing sign-in tables, or informing potential members about the great things Girl Scouts has to offer.

Share your experience and knowledge with middle and high school-aged Girl Scouts. Assist Girl Scouts in the Leadership Institute with business-oriented projects, or guide girls as they earn their Gold Awards, the highest award in Girl Scouting.

Lead girls through a variety of programs such as Journey Days or Badge Workshops. Facilitators will receive a curriculum in advance and should prepare to guide participating Girl Scouts through its content and activities.

Administrative Support

Assist us at our office on 40 Wall Street with tasks such as mailings, supply preparation, making phone calls, or updating member profiles.
