Required trainings:

  • GS101: GSUSA Volunteer Welcome Video
    A 45-minute self-paced online orientation to Girl Scouting.
  • GSGNY Leader's Guide to Success Training
    This is an in-person or webinar follow up training that includes all of the information needed to successfully run a Girl Scout troop (good for new leaders and established leaders who would like refresher) in NYC. Prerequisite: GS101.
  • Leadership Essentials for all New Leaders
    An introduction to the Girl Scout program, "Leadership Essentials" should be taken within one year of Getting Started. Prerequisite: Getting Started.

Outdoor/camping trainings:

  • Overnight Adventures: Sleep Out
    (Previously known as Overnight Adventures and Beyond )
    This course, offered in-person and virtually, is mandatory for all leaders participating in any overnight trip or sleepover. Trips may include overnight at a hotel, Camp Kaufmann theme weekend, your meeting place, museum, etc. anywhere you are taking your girls and staying overnight. This course is a pre-requisite for Overnight Adventures: Camp Out!
  • Overnight Adventures: Camp Out
    (Previously known as The Great Outdoors Camp Training)
    This training, currently available in-person at Camp Kaufmann, is mandatory for all leaders taking their Girl Scouts on a camping experience. This training is a weekend experience at Camp Kaufmann from Friday night until Sunday at 12 noon. The course is designed to prepare Troop Leaders for tent camping, fire building, various outdoor cooking methods, meal planning, packing essentials, and safety.  You must have taken the Overnight Adventures- Sleep Out! Course prior to attending this training.

Health & safety training:

First Aid Safety & Community CPR Training

GSGNY is offering several options for you:

  1. First Aid/CPR in person with an online component. Train with our Council Certified Trainers in your local community. View GS Events to see any upcoming trainings. 

  2. First Aid/CPR online with the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association that includes a skills demonstration portion in-person at one of their centers. Sign up by visiting their websites, linked above. 

  3. CPR training with the Dominic A. Murray Foundation. They conduct CPR trainings every month in the five boroughs of New York. Register on their website

  • Enrichment Trainings 
    These activities and workshops, which change seasonally, are designed to enhance leadership abilities.
  • Growing Together Through COVID-19
    Established shortly before the Shelter-in-Place order was enacted in NYC, the Growing Together series seeks to provide meaningful, topical, and accesible support to adults living in NYC.
