Give the Gift of Girl Scouting This Giving Tuesday

Dear Girl Scout Family and Friends:

Give the gift that will help today's girls become tomorrow's leaders. Give the gift of Girl Scouting.

"To me Girl Scouts means fun.
To me Girl scouts means peace.
To me Girl Scouts means having goals
and accomplishing them.
To me girl Scouts means being yourself
and not who anybody else wants you to be!"
-Kionna, 5th Grader

In New York City, we serve nearly 28,000 girls in every zip code of the five boroughs, two-thirds of whom come from low-income homes.  We believe that every girl - no matter who she is or where she comes from - deserves to lead with courage, confidence, and character, and to make the world a better place.

The Girl Scouts of Greater New York is proud to be a  #GivingTuesday partner, joining the movement to celebrate a day dedicated to giving.  As you think about your charitable giving today and throughout this holiday season, please join us in making girls and young women a priority.

Here are key ways the Girl Scouts of Greater New York makes girls a priority:

  • STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math): STEM programs give girls hands-on opportunities to learn about new and emerging fields while encouraging them to explore the world around them.

  • Business and Entrepreneurship: Our programs teach girls about Goal Setting, Financial Literacy, People Skills, and Business Ethnics-real-world skills girls needs to succeed.

  • Girl Scout Leadership Institute: Launched in partnership with Barnard College's Athena Center for Leadership Studies in summer 2013, this year-long program for high school-aged girls starts with a Retreat at our Girl Scout Camp, a Summer Intensive at Barnard College, and is followed by a School-Year Program focusing on leadership in the workplace, the community, and the world.

  • Environmental Leadership: At Girl Scout Camp girls get the opportunity to connect with nature, study botany and biology, and discover themselves through swimming, wall-climbing, and archery.

"The air smells different here.  The trees look greener.  Even the rain looks different.  Everything looks so amazing to me. It's like I'm seeing things and myself in a different light."
-Samantha, on her first visit to our Girl Scout Camp

Every donation counts and every dollar makes a difference.

Your gift of $25 can cover the cost of two girls in our "Cookie University" business-training event; $84 can sponsor a girl in a science program series; $425 subsidizes eco-programming for girls at our Girl Scout Camp. Your gift - of any amount - will help us provide more girls with the tools they need to succeed.

We need your help today.  Please GIVE as generously as you are able so we can deliver our leadership development programs to Kionna, Samantha, and even more girls this year.  Thank you for your support and kindness, and I offer my warmest wishes for this holiday season.

Yours in Girl Scouting,

Barbara Murphy-Warrington
Chief Executive Officer
Girl Scouts of Greater New York

P.S.  Remember that every donation counts, and every dollar makes a difference! Please, GIVE generously today!  Thank you!
