Current Opportunities

As a volunteer, you have the flexibility to tailor your involvement to fit your schedule and lifestyle. You can volunteer behind the scenes or even from your council office, instead of volunteering directly with girls. You also have the option of partnering with girls throughout a membership year or committing to just a few weeks or months.

Exciting Ways to Get Involved

Individual Basis:

Lead a Troop: The Girl Scouts of Greater New York has troops of every level meeting across the five boroughs. As a troop leader, you will work as part of a 2-4 member membership team with a small group of girls in your local neighborhood on a regular basis throughout the school year.  Using Girl Scout program resources, you will guide girls as they earn badges and awards, take exciting field trips, and more!   Adult education is provided, and support from volunteers and council staff is ongoing.   Troops generally meet from September through June.  Time commitment: 2-5 hours of preparation/program delivery per meeting.

Short-Term: If you’re not available to lead a troop but would still like to work with groups of girls on a short-term basis, you can get involved though our Series programs. This option allows you to share your hobbies or experiences to help guide girls on a path to become strong, confident leaders. Time commitment: 2-4 hours of preparation/program delivery per session.  Sessions take place about once a week for approximately 4-10 weeks.

One-Day Events: During our one-day events held throughout the year, you will interact with the girls as they earn badges and take part in new experiences. Episodic volunteers may help with events one month a year, or they may assist with a monthly activity, or they can lend a hand at other times that extra help is needed and the volunteer is available.  Time commitment: Events take place primarily on Saturdays for about 4-5 hours.

Camp: Nature enthusiasts can volunteer at camp to help girls explore the great outdoors and connect with the environment. Camp Kaufmann is located in Holmes, NY, about 60 miles north of NYC.   Time commitment: Daylong camp activities generally take place over weekends.
